Wax, shatter, badder, rosin and live resin
Shatter is glassy and snaps apart. Wax is soft and crumbly, and badder is whipped to a frosting-like texture. These are mostly the same kind of extract in different consistencies, which comes down to how it was handled after extraction.
Rosin is solventless: it is pressed out of flower or hash with just heat and pressure. Live resin is made from plants frozen right after harvest instead of dried, which keeps more terpenes and a stronger strain flavor. Live rosin combines both. Expect those to cost more than standard wax or shatter.
Buying concentrates in Clovis, NM
Concentrates often test anywhere from 60% to 90% THC, so a little goes a long way. A dab about the size of a grain of rice is a normal starting point. If flower is your usual, go easy the first time.
New Mexico allows adults 21 and over to buy up to 16 grams of concentrate at one time, and vape cart oil counts toward it. The cannabis laws guide covers the other limits.
What you need to dab
You will need a dab rig with a quartz banger, a carb cap, a dab tool and a torch, or an electronic rig that handles the heat for you. Lower temperatures keep more of the flavor.
Not sure a rig is for you? The bong vs. dab rig guide walks through the difference. Store concentrates in a small silicone or glass container away from heat so they do not melt or lose their flavor.
